*Gas Can Safety spout*

I'm jumping in without reading the whole thread, so forgive me for that. I just have to comment though, because I'm as peeved about it as anyone. It was about two years ago if I remember correctly ... I needed a new gas can. I looked at 'em every time I stopped at another store, because I wanted a certain kind. The kind I wanted is one that you can use without getting covered with gas and/or spilling it all over the place. The (then) new kind made for traveling and camping has an "accordian" spout that's inverted and inside the can, so that when you take it out you get gas on your hands. How convenient. It was just about the only thing I would see in all the different stores I visited. Then one day I found the perfect gas can. Not only did it have a stationary spout, but it also had an air tube in the spout so that you didn't have to unscrew an air vent cap. I bought one and still have it. The mistake I made is, I didn't go back and buy two bigger ones that I needed for the cabin boat. When I went back three months later for them, all the stock had been recalled and new safety cans were on the shelf. Those dumba** things that cover you with gas no matter how careful you are, or else you can't get the gas to flow. You have to know a politician was responsible because the cans defy logic and common sense. Brought to us by the same idiots who are shoving the screw shaped light bulbs down out throats. The ones that contain mercury and are going to cause huge environmental headaches.

right on cabincrazyone but when we are required to have all electric cars etc we won't
need gas cans-----but wait how we gonna charge them???? Oh yes i forget solor power

I just don't think electric chainsaws are ever gonna take off. I mean seriously. I know some people use electric mowers, and that's fine if you have a SMALL yard.
I really prefer electric weed eaters myself (the kind with CORDS, coz battery packs BLOW), but they just don't work for everybody.
Unless they can think up suitable a replacement for EVERY small engine, we'll still need gas cans for a while EVEN if they do manage to make AFFORDABLE plug-in cars. At the rate they're going, I might have one in oh, 20 years or so.

It's even hard to find the old style gas cans at flea markets. People snatch them up. I use gas cans a lot, and the safety cans are more dangerous than the old ones, because the only way to use them efficiently is to remove the cap.

I know. I've been looking for old cans with old spouts at rummage sales for the last two years. They're precious. Maybe Gollum has them all. "My precious."

They might be here

DH also scouts for them....we have about 15 of them. The go with the 10+ chainsaws he has....

Heh - he's a line clearance tree trimmer for the power company, and does a lot of side work. He has 2-3 of each size, so if he throws a chain or bends the bar, he can just grab another until he gets time to fix them
