My wife and I are looking at getting a new oven/range. I am looking for a pretty specific set up that will work with our kitchen set up. We currently have an electric cooktop and an electric oven. What I am wanting is a gas cook top on an electric convection oven in a slide in unit with built in downdraft. The only thing I can find like that is a gas oven and cooktop. This may be a bit silly but my wife nor I have ever used a gas oven so we do not know if it is equally the same as an electric oven or are there some differences. I am hoping that my fellow BYCers can shed some light on this for me.

I have always had gas (appliances) in the past. My current set up is a gas cooktop and a electric convection wall oven. The gas cooktop gives you more control with the heat. Any oven seems the same to me except with the convection more evan cooking. If I had to do it again, I would go with a gas oven and skip the convection. I don't think it was worth the money. I would also go with the largest oven I could get. But I love to cook.

I now have a dual fuel but in the past have always had gas ovens. I don't think you can go wrong with that. It seems like the electric oven of mine is so slow to heat up!

when I was shopping for an oven a few years ago I found several gas stove/electric oven combos out there. I didn't get one but I am sure they are still out there try something like the GE site

I have been looking on the internet and I went to Home Depot and have not been able to find the unit that I want. JennAir has a dual fuel unit with down draft but I did not like the cooktop. It had two burners and a grill. I need 4 burners. I have a JennAir electric cooktop now that one side can convert to a grill and I never use it.
Thanks for the input, I just have never cooked with a gas oven so did not know if or how it would differ in function from gas.

love my gas...power goes out...I am cooking inside! friends are coming over...my cast iron doesn't scratch those fancy surfaces...yup..love the gas...
