I think it's about 4 miles to the closest station, 5 to the Rotten Robbie's we usually use. I don't have a car, but at times esp. when the land owner's away, I drive his - a big ol BMW 7-series that gets used like a truck - picking up feed, hay, lumber, etc. I can generally skate on gas for short trips as long as I'm not using it too much, if it's a trip that's longer that's my idea, I have to put some gas in unless I just really can't do it financially. So it was his $66 not mine I put in

I have a bicycle (a single speed cruiser with a coaster brake I took from the "burning man refugee" pile and removed the useless stuff like rattly basket, expired light sticks, chain guard, fenders. I call it a "bully bike" 'cos it's just like the bullies used to ride when I was a kid

it's good 'n' heavy but I can get around on it pretty well. And the burley trailer I need to fix up, but that will need a different bike, one with a front brake for one thing, and lower gearing or just gears in general.

I'd like to take a light frame, some good wheels, and lace in this 3-speed Sturmey-Archer rear hub I have. Put a brake on the front and on the other side have the lever for the hub. As light and simple as possible but ... 3 speeds! Distances are long here, it's easy to put 20-30 miles in just pooping around doing errands. At least I can carry quite a bit in this backpack I have.

There's also the bus, $2 a ride or $6 and ride it all you want (or can stand) for the day. And it's an hour's walk to/from the stop.

I'd like to have a motorcycle again but I can't think about it until I have some kind of income that's above the 3rd world level. As a yearly average, I'm only making $5-$10 a day. On that level, even a gas-sipping motorcycle or a bike not pulled from the "boneyard" is a luxury.

(And yes I'm up this weird hour because after putting in a ton of work here, mainly on my coop, I put in I guess 5 hours at my cash-money job taking test equipment apart. So far I'm making about $100 a week doing this, miraculous because normally I'm in a "no work, no money" regime each year from Nov. 1 to April 1.

So, yeah, $10 gas won't kill us here and we don't have a lot of the anxiety that most people do over gas prices and well, further economic collapse because we're preppers. But if gas goes that high or even $5 (and I believe $5) if it can possibly be done with the bicycle by me, it will.

It is $3.39 here in NE Ohio. It was only $3.09 when I was out a week ago before we all got sick.

My friend called me last night to say I better stock up on food staples, because the prices on all food are going up very soon. Don't know why that would be(besides fuel),but I suppose a little stocking could not hurt.

I can get about 60 mpg with my harley... but I couldn't haul with it.

I may have to resort to hooking up the dog cart, I only have 3 mls to my feed store too. May as well put the dogs to work! Or get a mini pony to pull it!

Everything is going up because the value of the dollar is going down.

With gas prices going up the cost to ship food goes up,also we use petrol based fertalizer to grow the food as well.

Being in my 50s, I just don't see the big deal. In my life it's always been the same. Prices continually go up, on virtually everything. I remember my grandparents complaining about the rising costs of a loaf of bread, property, gas, and everything else. I'm sure it's largely based more on greed than supply and demand, but I have no control over it, so I just do the best I can.

I get about 50 mpg on mine. I also have a Suzuki GZ-250...65 mpg with the wind lol.

I am glad some are finding ways around not using gas. But for the rest of us that must, it looks real bad. Hubby heard that they want a price hike up to $7 dollars by end of year. I say Yea right, they tried that 3 years ago and looked what happened. Fact is the world runs on gas to get things done. From the home with yard tools and cars to big business running turbines and shipping trucks. If the truckers can not afford to run then stuff does not get on the shelves. Last time they had railroads pick up some of the slack on that but it did not help enough.

As far as other prices going up it has happened already. Meat, milk ,bread and many veggies have all gone up. It is not like we have a choice on what to spend what cash we have on when all the stores price the same. Here even the gas stations all stay with one price. Nuts I know but that is they way it is.

So what to do to help yourself some with high gas. Less trips yes. Buy more of what one needs so you do not have to go out again for it that month. Bulk is a blessing now. I buy 2 bags of feed and free range. I know most can not and I think if I could not free range I would not have chickens. It cost way too much just for a few eggs when raising your own. Now if I was breeding and eating them too it would be worth it but not just for eggs.

Gardens are great but what do you have to buy to have one work right? If you are buying fretilzer, lime, mulch, compost, bug sprays ect how is that cost effective. So yes gas does effect more than just the trip to work or the store. This is the time when budget planning on paper is a must.

I guess the best thing out of this is that it is hitting at the end of winter not the start. But for those that live in states that ship their electirc and pay for that it will still hurt them more. One needs to look outside of themselves to see how others are being effectived for it will come down to them sooner or later. Thats reality folks. So start stalking up suppiles you can now so you do not need to go out later when gas gets higher.

Lets pray what we are all hearing is way wrong too. We do not need gas to go any higher at all.
