Gas up once again

Some still think they need their Jumbo 4x4 on steroids to go grocery shopping in. Some of those trucks have never seen a gravel road, it is a status symbol. Hate to pay their fuel bill.

That's what really annoys me. I live in a very rural area and if I didn't have a 4x4 we would be housebound for most of the winter but then there are those that buy them because they think it makes them look cool then it hikes the price up and punishes those that really need them. They call them "Chelsea Tractors" here after the posh area of London where they are used as a status symbol rather than a utility vehicle.

That is what we heard too, and you know what just gets me. We act like we have to import every stinkin' thing we use . . .and we HAVE oil here, old pumps in our area are being reactivated, so don't tell me we couldn't do it ON OUR OWN. Why should we suffer because some idiot in another country is causing havoc. . .we need to rethink this whole political set up we call government.

If I remember right from our old threads on gasoline and importations, our grade is not the same grade of oil in Saudi Arabia. So there fore, our oil needs to be refined differently so that is why they are exported.

Hubby can vouch for rural Scotland, you NEED a 4x4 to get around in winter months otherwise you would be stuck!

Yep it can be done.

I held a sewing machine on the back once. Should have seen the stares we got. LOL

They say $5 is going to be the normal price we'll end up paying and it won't go down.

Got rid of our minivan last May and bought a pair of scooters for about what it would have cost us to fix the minivan. It used to cost us $75-90 every two weeks to fill that thing up. We ran the same errands all summer long on the scooters, and between the 2 scooters, I don't think we used up enough gas in 6 months that we would have spent filling up the minivan just one time.

Get a scooter. Don't let people talk smack about cheaply-built Chinese scoots, either. They take some maintenance but are SO worth it. I get 80-85 mpg on mine, and Farmer Lew gets about 65-70 mpg on his. This summer when nobody can afford to go anywhere, we'll still be taking Sunday drives on our scoots.

Get one. Seriously.

Edited for typos.

I just got an email today that said instead of having a "don't buy gas" day to get prices down, we should just not buy from the two biggest companies, Exxon and Mobil. If they quit making money, they will have to lower their prices and the rest will follow suit. It just seems to me if everyone could get on the same page about something, things are bound to happen.... just sayin

Unfortunately gas is one of those must haves for most people. I just bought gas and it said $3.49 on the sign. When I started pumping it was $3.57 a gallon. Then I looked closer and the sign said discount rate $3.49, but I don't know how you get the discount.
My husband and I have also started buying gas from Walmart. We put the amount of money for gas on a gift card first and then use the gift card to pump gas and you get it 3 cents cheaper. Not much of a discount but everybit helps.

Dont buy gas days dont do anything. Even if you could get everyone to do it they would just fill up the day before or after. The local store sees it but the people up the food chain who can effect the price never sees any change in usage. The only thing that brings the price back down is long term drops in usage. They push the price up every year till we stop buying as much then they back it back down a hair to get us buying again. Then next year they will do the same. Keeping the price as high as we will stand but doing it slow enough to keep us from jumping ship. Like the frog being boiled alive thing.

Only two thing will bring it back down now. Commercial drivers unioning up an going on strike or government takeover an regulating fuel prices. Nether is going to happen an if they did it that would be bad news too.

Yeah but that's the point. Really screws them up on that one day, but to really make a difference it needs to be done on a random day each week for a month. I have done those days. So many don't though. If they all did it would put out the message that we aren't playing. I try to keep my tank full at all times, but I'm at half a tank now and I'll have to fill up. It was usually $3 to fill up. I hope I can get 1/2 a tanl for that today. Lowest around me is $1.65
