Gasping for air

I sadly already burried her and don't have a place to store her my mom would never let me put a chicken in the fridge. I'm keeping a close eye on my other ones for sure. She's always been the winded loner so maybe there was always something a little off I didn't want to admit, she had laid an egg yesterday but nothing today but she was walking and running around fine with the others this morning :( I've already treated them all for worms yesterday if that was the case I hope that will take care of it none have any signs of respiratory problems heck she didn't though until late last night and I thought it might have just been too hot for her she was my only fluffy one :(

She just died is there something I should do for the rest of my chickens?
How sad! That is too bad! The reason I asked how old she was, was because I was thinking she was having some type of heart issue that possibly could have been related to reproductive problems. I was going to ask you if she had a swollen belly.

I hope your other ones will be OK, it doesn’t sound like a disease or illness to me. I am just wondering did your girl ever lay soft shell eggs?

I've found two soft shells over the 3 years of having chickens but I'm pretty sure they were from my new layers that had just started. She seemed healthy other then being a little slower but her being my only Cochin I thought it might be due to heat

I am really sorry for your sudden loss of your chicken. I would try to get a necropsy done by your state vet on Monday to look for a cause of death. Refrigerate her body (do not freeze) and contact your state vet on Monday. Many will issue a Fedex shipping label for overnight shipping. It could have been gapeworms, ILT, a respiratory disease, or something else, but a necropsy is best.
Good advice!!:goodpost:

Sounds like she may have had a bad heart or some sort of fluid buildup. Either way there is not much you could have done. It’s really hard to have a pet pass, sorry you lost your little friend.

Thank you everyone :/ it's always hard to loose a little pet and she was one of my first girls but I hopefully have one of her eggs due to hatch in the incubator and hope she doesn't pass on whatever she had :/
