Hi I am a new member, my brothers raised silkies as long as I can remember but I am a road island red fan. I'm getting 8 new pullets. Any information will help but my main question is about bedding. I have had people tell me everything from peanut hulls to sand with some cracked corn scattered to pine chips would do. I was hoping for some more suggestions

! Happy you are joining the poultry universe! I agree with 1muttsfan's advice about visiting that link. Personally, for chicks I use pone shavings. For my hens in the coop I use hay or straw. I have sand down in the run to keep mud out of the coop. Good luck to you!

Hello and welcome from Ohio....so glad you joined BYC

I use the DLM (deep litter method) with pine shavings for all my coops. About 5-6 inches in each coop once a year and it stays dry and odor free.
