Gave my broody eggs tonight...first time for both of us...anyone else start some today, 4-4-12?

This is awesome...thanks for sharing the pictures.

I am still nursing my 6 week old with wry neck. She is curled up in a towel on my lap as I type this, sweet little Nala. I hope she pulls through.

So I was thinking we should take a count of how many eggs we set and how many we hatch. I set 7 and hatched 3.

NO. Let's not. Because then I'll realize that this hatch is actually LESS than 75%... Because I set 29, including the bad turkey eggs... and only about 12 made it to lockdown with one I'm sure is dead at this point. Locked it down anyway to be safe.

My 6 new chickies. The yellow one got out and the big hens picked on it so it has a bloody spot on its head. Seems to be fine, though. I set 18, 11 were actually fertile. 8 hatched, 2 died while still wet. 1 pipped but then died in the shell. I guess it's ok considering this is Mama Hen's first brood.

So sorry to hear about the little chick getting pecked. :(

I blocked off the dog crate today, because this morning I found one of my leghorns this morning with a torn and bloody comb. And I am wondering if she stuck her head into the dog crate and Rosa got a hold of it last night. I was worried about the chicks getting to close to the bars and getting snatched out.

In other news, my other broody Onyx that is on day 15, has not been seen off the nest since Sunday. I am hoping she is getting off at some point to eat and drink...that worries me.

I just checked in on her when I was collecting eggs from the other girls. Another hen was on those eggs, she was in the next box over on one egg that was layed today.

That happened several times with my broody hen. In addition, I received three new hens after my broody had started setting and it seemed they were harassing her. I semi-covered the opening to the nesting box in a way that she could get in and out, but she was hard to see from the outside. That worked very well for me.

I'm really frustrated with this hatch. I'm on day two of hatch, had to give food and water to the babies that were out... So I quickly checked a few eggs. Everything looks still.

I've got five out, happy with them.

What breed(s) were you hatching again? Nothing on the others, not even pips?

No pips, no rocking, no noise... Nada.

All American Game - Grey, Blue Grey, Hatch, White Spangled Clarets. Only a small portion of the WC's made it to lock down - all of the Hatch were good going in. One Hatch, two WC's, one BG, one SSG out.

Just was out to lock the chickens up for the night....in the SNOW. Yes, Sunday and Monday it was in the low 80's and tonight snow......Spring time in the Rockies!

I wonder why they are not hatching??? Hope you get something soon.

I don't want to get egg-cited, but I THINK I see a pip in one of the SSG's...

The five that hatched are doing good, but looking at them makes me think I had humidity issues. One little guy has wry neck, another has cross beak and wry neck. Both could be caused not only be genetics, but by high humidity. I wonder if I wasn't just drowning the chicks? I need to get a new hydrometer so I can test this theory.
