Geese eggs

I am so upset. I came home so excited to check on mama and for more babies and instead I found that our gosling somehow got through the fence and my dogs killed it. The mama goose has been crying for it for hours. I don't even know how to help. Just praying another one hatches and that I can keep it safe. :( so sad

You need some hardware wire along the bottom to keep the goslings safe with mama or it may happen again. I'm very sorry. Poor mama goose.

Like Miss Lydia said...hardware cloth also known as 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch fence fabric. Our fence is 2x4 fencing but we had to line the bottom with 1/4 inch fence fabric. Not because they were getting through but because for all of them, chickens, ducks and geese, the grass must be greener and they were sticking their heads through which could have been way too much temptation for our dogs who normally just ignore them.

I am sorry you lost your baby and hope that another hatches soon. Mother goose will adjust eventually. There is really nothing you can do except let time heal her.

I had some tin roofing laying around and had put it around the area (since she put her nest right by the dog yard) and really thought it was covered just fine. There must be a small opening in a corner that I can't get to. Going to see what I can do in the morning when I have some daylight. Mama and daddy goose are still calling for the baby and it's been hours. :(

That is very sad I'm sure they haven't any idea what happened. Hope you can get it fixed before any more hatch.

I got up around 3am and mama and daddy goose are still calling for the babies. Ugh. It's heart-breaking. Mama goose is sitting on the remaining eggs making an awfully sad sound, I sure hope some other eggs hatch. I'm not sure if they will because she was off of them off and on all day yesterday.

That has to be heart breaking to hear. I hope you can find the breach before any more wander into dangerous territory. I think I'd check the eggs and see what's going on. Hopefully she will stay on them today.

How many babies I thought just the 1

Yes, just the one, sorry I meant to say "baby" above.

She will not let me near the eggs or her. Daddy goose will hardly let me in the yard. I went out this morning and worked on a barrier between the dog yard and where mama goose is, but didn't have a lot of time before work. Will work on it tonight some more and hope for some to hatch. I know that Saturday will be day 34 or 35 of incubation, so I expect if they don't hatch by then, they are not going to.

I am debating checking around to see if anyone has some baby ducks or geese locally that I can buy and let her "adopt" them if none of her remaining eggs hatch.

I hope she does hatch more. Your going to have to go in there soon.
