Is there any place you can herd them too outside of the yard? a building or do they have a house? long enough for you to have a look smell and touch of the eggs? If I have to do something with mine when they are in breeding or brooding mode I use a long bamboo pole to herd them off or where I want them to go that way i don't risk getting bit as easy.
If rotten dead in shell or non fertile they need to be removed, Let her see the eggs are gone then remove all the old bedding and put something there so she doesn't keep going back. In the wild they probably lose eggs more than we know she'll recover it will just take time to mourn the loss. Very sorry you and her are going through this.
Keep in mind that a goose lays an egg aprox. every other day. So, if there are 10 eggs they were laid over a 20 day period. So, if egg number one is a day 35 then egg 10 would be at day 25 or so. If you marked the eggs as they were being laid then you could easily remove the oldest eggs and leave the ones that may still hatch. Candle them if possible to check for development.
I agree I just assumed she would candle , also I saw where casportpony said lay the eggs out for about 10-20 mins if any are still living those eggs will still be warm compared to those that are dead or not fertile.
Well just leave them alone once they explode she get off. They smell will eventually go away too. No since in getting hurt. such a shame after 15 yrs they lose the only gosling though. Or have they hatched goslings before?
Keep us updated and handle with extreme care. They do grieve poor thing. Poor health is dif a possibility especially if she isn't eating anything but bread, an you put food and water close to her so she doesn't have to go far from her nest?First eggs in all of their 15 years... very sad... she seems so intent on one of these eggs hatching still. They "crying" has gotten less, but she is still grieving I believe. Still sitting too. I hope she does not get in poor health from sitting so long. She hopped up for some bread that I threw out last night and I got a glance at the eggs, I can only see 4 eggs, they have not exploded, look the same as they always have. I am going to make an effort this weekend to get the eggs and candle them - and pray they do not explode when I touch them.
