I can think of two more places to try and one person to ask:
craigslist.org - listings for your area (try with caution, of course),
or your local feed stores - people usually post flyers, but employees of smaller stores may know something...
Finally, ask your trusted equine vet - they are probably your best link to the horse world. They have many clients and most of the vets have their own horses, so they are well connected to the industry, and may hear of horses not advertised, or advertised where you're not looking. If you don't trust your vet, find a horse-friend who trusts theirs, switch and ask them!
