These babies will be 4 weeks tomorrow. I have terrible luck with about 75% of my eggs being male, so I’m guessing I have 5 boys out of the 7 chicks. I feel like all of my hens turned into cockerels in the last couple of days. 😢
#1 English Silver Laced Orpington
#2 Splash Easter Egger, acted like a cockerel from day 1!
#3 Houdan
#4 Marans
#5 Mix of male Black Star/female Partridge Cochin (Unless I’m guessing the wrong chick)
#6 Mix of male Black Star/female Partridge Olive Egger (Unless I’m guessing the wrong chick) I LOVE this ugly chick - sweetest of all!
#7 Mix of male Black Star/female Golden Laced Wyandotte (Unless I’m guessing the wrong chick)

Number 1 and 4 are cockerels. For the others, update in a few weeks

A couple of updated pics... They are 5 weeks old today. #1 is still a rooster and is about the meanest baby chick I have ever seen. The only meaner chick is baby #2 who even pecks my hand if I can manage to pick him up! Everyone already said #1 is a cockere and #2 has acted like a roo since day 1, but I wanted to confirm if possible? Mama left them yesterday and I separated these two because they are mean to everyone else too.

I think the bright red dot on the end of his comb is from getting pecked so badly when I tried to put him in with an 8 week old rooster.

You probably already figured this out, but you need to integrate birds slowly. :)
Thank you for the cockerel confirmation! They have been free ranged together since the babies were only a few days old and mama brought them outside. The older babies were very nice to the babies when mama was there to protect them! It was when the baby Roos were put into a run with the older ones that they started beating them up. That’s especially true because they all run along the fence desperately wanting out. It’s a sad thing to be born a male chicken.
