gender of this pigeon?!?!?!

I stand corrected I believe.
Those are antics of a female bird I have to agree.
However I will predict you will not know for sure until it lays an egg!
I have been down that road before and so have many pigeon fanciers.
I would try and pair her with a male in this case and see what happens next.
Good luck E15 and keep me posted I am kind of curious on this one.

100% female just not quite mature yet

thanks spikennipper!!!! and yes hokumcoco i will keep you posted :p im going to put it with a female pigeon to se what it does then a male. i really want it to be a male

Well lets get real here, eh?

YOU CANNOT TELL THE GENDER OF A PIGEON BY A PICTURE.
At least by a picture of it standing doing nothing.
Male or female, it'll have a shiny neck.
Male or female, it'll have a cere.

That said, it's possible to get guesses. The cere is a bit large, suggesting male. (For a feral at least)
But if you were to compare it to a known female feral, that would be brilliant since if its larger, my guess would be male, if smaller or around same size then I'd guess female (however I currently have a pair that's the same size)

If it courts a female, male without a doubt.

Hokum coco, great to know Your right 80% of the time, but a picture of a standing pigeon, no other pigeons by it for size comparison, nothing by it to compare size, it just standing, would be about impossible to guess gender without any more background information.
Also, a pigeon (atleast about 99% of the time) isn't going to lay an egg unless it mates with a male. By then I'd expect to be able to tell the gender of it.

Spikennipper, what makes you think it's 100% female?

But really, can we be *real* here? Unless you've seen the pigeon court, bill, or get bred or breed, then knowing 100% it's gender is about impossible without lab results.

i got a little offended there!!! but oh well, last time i but it with a male roller squeaker and it just cooed but didnt damnce and attacked

Ive seen two male take up and even mount each other, even females.. I've seen females act male, then drop an egg.. feral pigeons are a lot mixes of breeds of pigeons, somejust more over years. i right now on wire rabbit cage grated floors, have a cage of all seperated parlor hens, that if males are let next to the cage, the females will all start laying soon after and make feather nests together or alone, no male contact at all..

I can tell CochinBrahmaLover is very knowledgeable about pigeons. I am also thankful that he said a pigeon will not lay an egg only if it mates with a male 99% of the time (I think it is more like 90% but that is talking from my experience).

I also agree with every thing else he said.

In the same token I am sure his best guess at the sex of a pigeon is right more than he is wrong.

The only true way to know the sex of a pigeon it to watch it interact with the flock. Even then mistakes are made but you are right at least 95% of the time (speaking from my experience).

I have a lesbian pair who just hatched 4 squabs (not sure which male they mated with but I am hoping it is my Belgium homer Losolo). So even pigeons make mistakes when they choose a mate (not saying Lesbians are mistakes they are legally married in some countries Canada included).

Currently I have two pairs of pigeons raising 3 squabs.

Put it with the others and see what happens. By itself it may never show its gender. Unless it was bonded to you to the point of seeing you as its mate, it won't lay eggs and likely will not court anything unless it sees another bird.

What about those that frequently post about totally alone females consistantly laying, two females laying four eggs when person only has had those two for years, or a true pair that the female lays constantly though eggs are infertile from sterile male??? those facts kinda blow some opinions out of the water..
