We were picking up our CSA share today and checked out their chickens. At first I thought they all were Barred Rockes, but I noticed some some had heads that were wattle red and featherless almost all the way back to their ears and they had smaller combs than the pullets I could easily ID as Barred Rocks. According the folks at the farm they're not laying yet, although they looked close to maturity.

Does a Dominque have a red featherless head?

I've neve seen on in person so I'm just curious; I've seen planety of Barred Rocks before.

Thanks!
Phyllis

Just google it and you'll find plenty of pics!

Yes, it the heads are featherless then they have either been with an overly amorous rooster (or many) or have some sort of feather issue such as mites/lice. If it's roosters, then their backs should be bare, too.
