Genetic Gurus...help please!

It seems that it's going to take many years, many breedings, and many culls to get where I want my flock to be...but it will be sooooo worth it.

I was hoping that MAYBE a year or two's work could be eliminated if I could outcross for improved body type. Guess not.

I've just got to work with what I have and strive for the best.

I'd keep the best body types first. Then when you have the chunky, deep bodied bird you want according to the SOP, then you get the best combs or coloring from that group, then breed for best leg color and so on and so on. At least, that seems to me to be the best avenue. If you outcross, you will add in more challenges than you have now, IMO.

Thanks, Cyn. I do admit, though, that when I initially read the articles about crossing the Del and RIR to get Del patterned chicks...I was quite hopeful and excited...thus the reason for this thread. I am definitely not a genetics guru...not even an apprentice

...so I knew this was the best place to come to get the whole truth.
