I have a batch of chickies in my barn brooder with a funky chicken in with a healthy group.
I need to now if this is a birth defect or a disease that can spread to the rest of the group.
The first 2 photos are the chick in question. The 3rd is one of the normal looking hatch mates.

It would appear as if she has a short neck. She is a little bit smaller than average compared to the group.
SHOULD SHE BE ISOLATED AND QUARANTINED OR CULLED?
I don't wish to jeopardize the health of the entire group.
Thank you for your opinions in advance.

I don't know Connie, I think if it were me I'd isolate her and see how she develops. And wait for someone more knowledgeable to weigh in. Here's hoping its nothing :fl

I noticed this days ago of course but it only flagged my attention this morning when noticing her feathers are not as thick and full like her hatch mates.
Thanks for replying..:)

I hate it when I see something strange and have no Idea what is going on. I generally isolate and then start digging. Most of the time they seem to do ok, so I guess i'm still learning chicken behavior. And feeling like a slow learner.:th

She looks cold. Might also be a sign of coccidiosis.
I couldn't snap a pic while holding her. I am home alone. But when I picked her up earlier, I fooled around with her head and neck, gently tryed to get it to stand up straight or stretch out so to speak. It just seems to be short and droopy. I didn't want to pull hard.
It looks like coccidiosis to you?

It looks like a chilled bird. Whether it's due to truly being cold or sick, I don't know. Sick birds frequently have a harder time regulating temp and are more prone to chilling. The most common illness, and the easiest to treat, is coccidiosis.

We are in Fl. Our heat index is brutal right now. I have ceiling fans going in the barn to move the heat from the tin roof around. should I turn off the fans? They all might bake though.
