Genetics Experts - Can someone please explain HOW this happened???

Are these chicks the only kind that came from the black parents?
They look columbian restricted, the dark one may be melanized and columbian restricted, like a lakenvelder.

Your animals may carry wheaten or another recessive e-allele, but then you also should get 75% solid black ones.
Small numbers never obey chance...

The dominant E or E^R alleles suppress columbian restriction.
Not that you need a restrictor to get non-solids if you have wheaten in there.

The reason that you didn't get any may be very simple.
If one of your breeders is purebreed for the dominant e-alleles E or E^R you won't get any recessives.
Your neighbours should get solid chicks if they bred any more.
What chickens do the other neighbours have?
