Genetics for dummies?!

Actually crele is BBR plus barring. Crossing to a different breed will not create a pure bred, and in most cases it will not look quite correct for either breed.

Yes you are right my mistake sorry about that must have been thinking of the Brown Reds i spoke of

Crele is a cross of BB Red and Barred rock
I have 2 trios that only produce Crele i have yet to have a Barred hatch out of a clutch but theres always that chance.

I should of caught my mistake as i breed Crele thanks for catching that for me

This is why I stopped posting at the coop. I get tired of defending my answers

Not meaning to be rude.....but if nobody ever questioned things that a knowledgeable people state, then we should not learn & move on. Anyone stating an answer needs to be able to account for their answer....surely?

Krys,

This explanation does not answer the original question nor does in explain why my answer is in error. No offense to Henk

The original question was :
Take a yellow lab with a long lineage of yellows and chocolates but no black labs and breed it with a male chocolate with all chocolates for 7 or so generations and what do you get? Hmmm... wanna guess? 15 Black lab puppies...

I assumed the person knew something about dog genetics. I answered the question using a simple dyhybrid cross. My genotypes are correct for the parents and offspring without bringing in other genes into the picture. I did not see a need to bring in the other genes that are involved with the melanocortin 1 receptor or biosynthesis of eumelanin.

If a person has questions, I will be glad to answer them. I have done that a number of times.

At the coop I had people telling me that I could not produce certain varieties of birds because it was genetically impossible. I did it anyway, but they continued to deny that I had produced the phenotype with a specific genotype. The problem was that the people were making assumptions based upon their own ignorance.

If I am wrong I will admit that I am wrong- I make mistakes in my explanations.

If I have made the crosses and seen the results which are based upon sound research I get a bit irritated. If someone is going to say I am wrong they need to back it with sound research or a plausible mechanism based upon research.

That makes perfect sense; in that position I get irritated too.

I'm sorry. I hope I haven't offended you. You've often been very patient with me when I've asked numerous questions & asked for lots of explanations.

Krys,

No, you have not offended me nor has Henk. I may come off as offended but I am not. I enjoy a good debate but whoever wants to debate had better be able to have some research to back his or her counter point not just what they think.

I want to here some sound reasoning in their argument not just a bunch of blah blah blah. If a person can not back their point with sound reasoning, they should get off the stage. I am not directing this at anybody on this forum.

Tim
