Genetics question.

I'm not sure if this is actually genetics but it sounded good. If I cross a Lavender Orpington rooster with a Buff Orpington hen, is it possible to predict the color the chicks would be? How do you go about guesing? (for any cross of breeds.) Or is it just a surprise with every chick?

I believe all the chicks will be black. Lavender is a gene that dilutes black and the usual black gene is called "extended black" and if is dominant over almost all other colors. The chicks will carry both the lavender and buff genes, but I don't think you will see any in the first generation.
