Gentleman Rooster

My dominant rooster, Carl, also demonstrates that gentlemanly behavior. Some of my other roosters will do the "tidbitting" call, but sometimes they fake the hens out just so they can jump 'em. Sneaky boys! There are always girls that fall for that tactic, too.

Carl has a favorite hen who is the ONLY one who can tell him "no" when he performs the Rooster Dance of Love for her. They roost next to each other on the highest bar, nap together in the yard, and Rebecca grooms him lovingly.

Bob is definitely a keeper!

The gentlemanly behavior can sometimes go farther. Many of my roosters will help broody hens find food for chicks and some will also take over parenting of juveniles when hen sets a subsequent clutch. Generally, the gentlemanly behavior is most typical of dominant roosters or those that think they are father of bitties tended by hen rooster is helping out.
