Great news DM. I counted today and i think i have 20 hatched and a lot more on the way. My plan is to raise a bunch and cull cull cull.

I've been casually following this thread. I have a couple of question which may well have been answered along the way.

1) How is this line for growth rate and size? In the past, many of my inquiries about New Hampshires have been answered with the disclaimer that "this line is on the small side". Is the German line different in this regard?

2) Who is selling hatching eggs this spring? I've looked in the "for sale" section and found only one listing.

Thanks,
Tim

thise line of new hamps is 100% not on the small size they are larger than most the USA line new hamps with much better color and typ

Mine are good size overall, I have seven girls and only one is what I would call a light weight. I will sell hatching eggs, but there may be someone closer to you. I am in NC.

Banjoejoe, you said "they are larger than most USA line New Hamps with much better color and typ". I would agree that the German Line does have good size but I would have to disagree at least in part on the better color and type. The German line is way to dark in the body and lack the proper ticking in the hackle in the females. They are definately a project that is on going but a good quality American line New Hampshire would win at a show every time. These birds are very attractive to look at but the color conflict with the APA standard will hinder them winning top honors at a show. The type also has some issues as alot of them are to big and bushy in the tail. There are a few lines of quality American New Hampshires still out there but they are difficult to find and attain as the older breeders don't advertise or use the internet. Like I said, they are a project and hopefully in the next 5-10 years we can use these German birds along with the existing American lines to bring the New Hampshire back to a level at which they can compete on a National level but right now they are not there.

i would have to agree on some and disagree as well the truth is yes there are still great quality USA line new hamps out there but are verry verry rarely seen and you are hard pressed to find them wille the USA line new hamps that you do find are smaller and are to slim they also have poor color and MOST lack the underlining colobean color patern "witch give them that ticking in the hakel " wille not all german line hens have that ticking most of mine do " it may not be as prononced as i would like " the sad truth is that the german line new hamps would beat the USA line new hamps 7out of 10 due to the lack of SQ USA line new hamps left
