German Spitzhaubens

Another Spitzie enthusiast ! We are converting the world to the coolest chicken in the Universe.

Yes, they originated in the Appenzell region of Switzerland. Some hatcheries call them German Spitzhaubens, but that is incorrect. Maybe because Spitzhauben sounds more German than Swiss ????

When I first saw a picture of Spitzhauben I thought they were fake. Now I understand that they are as nice as they are beautiful. My ebay eggs are in the inc'y. I can't wait!!!!

I've decided to name them Roscoe and his Fly Girls.

And anyone who can guess the reference can have all the chicken and waffles they can eat. <eg>.

I can't wait to get babies out of these three. They are still young - only a couple of months old, but I just know they'll be adorable babies. I'm thinking maybe I ought to go back and get a another hen, to keep Roscoe busy, LOL.

Try to handle them A LOT. Mine didn't get much attention since we hatched
so many birds at once and now at 12 weeks are skittish as heck. I've been
told they are a little flighty by nature anyways.

I have some 2 week old Cream Brabanters that look a lot like Spitzhaubens, I think. They are rare too. I like mine so far. Love the "hair do" they have. So cute!!

We have Brabanters with our Spitzhaubens. They all hatched at the same time.
The Brabanters have smaller poofs and cool muffs on their faces. I'd like to
keep the two breeds together and see what the chicks turn out to be.​

Nice pic. My Brabanters are much lighter.

This is our roo. He never got his poof and has the muffs (I think). The 2 hens have
poofs like yours.

I still haven't decided whether to get cream or gold. I haven't met any in person yet. Anybody got opinions on that?
