Get UP in the MORNIN'! You're living on a farm so GET UP!

I believe it's time for a rooster to be places in a certain room with a certain sleepyhead

Well a couple of those scenarios where you work out what works best for you both sound real good to me, but it don't look like that's likely here.

I'm going to the doctor to see if there are any of my medications that are interfering with my sleep, but I think I already know what the problem is - and it would require some tests and some other medical stuff happening before the doc will agree to make any changes.

But even if I get a decent night's sleep, I do believe, it still winds up somehow that I go to bed when he wants to, and I do the chores alone in the morning, and if something happens to me out there, so what.

I am NOT a morning person. I get to work very grumpy - ever notice how UGLY all the people in other cars are, around you, in traffic, on the way to work in the morning??? - and my boss knows I won't be bright eyed and bushy tailed until 9:30 or 10 a.m. And after quite a bit of coffee. Sometimes I get to work wearing two different colored shoes or my top is on inside out or something stupid. My hair is always wet from the shower.

I stumble through chicken chores in the morning before work, doing the bare minimum, and come home during my lunch hour to make sure I didn't leave anybody starving or thirsty. Weekends, the chickens just have to wait for me to get up to take care of them. I haven't got any cows to milk, which I think is about the most pressing thing that one should really handle (I understand full udders hurt) in the early hours.

Yep.. I want the animals, but i make hubby be the one to get up and take care of them... so i can sleep in.
Come to think of it.. he does the night chores too...

I think if he wanted to get up early and do critter chores, he would. So he probably doesnt.

Im up at 5 every morning. Because I want to. Its the farmer in me. There is no way in gods green earth I could ever sleep past 6 or 6:30. Because I want to get out there and get to work.

People do what they want to do. I dont think you will change that.

We've been "retired" for a bit now and do have very different sleeping patterns. My partner has COPD that has come on gradually over the last few years. Before that we were military and naturally up early and going all day. He always stayed up later than me. When we retired, at first we kept the same hours as before but eventually he began to call it a night earlier and earlier. I CANNOT go to sleep at 8 pm and get up at 2 am. It ain't happening! I still crash between 10-11 pm and get up about 5. We've both pretty much just shrugged our shoulders over this change in hours and said, "Oh well" and let it go at that. He can't undo his physical problems any more than I can (I am diabetic).

But what has changed is that, as his COPD has gotten bad, all the barn work and gardening has gradually shifted over to me. Unfortunately I am also still the one who does ALL the cooking and canning and such, altho he has gradually taken over the rest of the housework. All told, I think we are still pretty evenly matched, work-wise. Neither of us is carrying all the load; we're just carrying different parts than we used to. I think THAT is why it is working; neither of us feels taken advantage of. But to be brutally honest about it, I think that has happened because we are both guys.

I think guys tend to take advantage of the situation when their partners are female, however. When they can't handle the outdoor stuff, all too often they STILL turn a blind eye to the indoor stuff as "woman's work" and don't acknowledge that their "other half" is now carrying a disproportionately large share of the work load. Some guys do, but most don't seem to. Even when you call them on it.

I'm a night owl and an early riser. I'm up to at least till midnight ( often later)most nights and up by 6 at the latest. If I get more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep I feel like I'm in a fog for most of the morning.
