Getting baby chicks for show!

Good to know, thanks! So in 4H 'show quality' would be more about the bird looking healthy and being calm and easy to handle than it matching the breed standard?
Yes temperament, health and vigor. The kids usually raise the chick all spring getting it use to being handled and friendly and working with it to walk on the table.

Cool, sounds like matching the standard doesn't matter too much in that case. Very different from the APA and ABA shows, lol. Although you do still want your birds to be easy to handle for them, too.

In that case, I'd get them sooner rather than later. The longer you have to work with them to get them used to being handled for the showmanship, the better, I would think :)

Yeah, last year my birds were great. 😯😄Other than a little bit of bickering to get the one out of the cage. 😂That one died sadly😔

Very interesting...I don't know if the 4H groups do many shows here, but they have a big one during the week of our fair. Lots of younger kids with their pet chickens, and they handle them surprisingly well!
Best of luck with your show!

Is it the Canfield fair?? If so maybe I'll see you this year in the small animal barn!
