Getting big and Brave!!

My girls are 3.5 weeks old and are almost fully feathered . They just have a lil fuzz still on their head( but head feathers are starting!) and a lil fuzz under their butts. They are getting adventuresome too ! Today 3 or 4 ( i cant tell them apart ) of them decided to hop out of the brooder luckily I could catch them before they got into anything bad. But they sure liked getting out of that brooder and looking around!

They grow SO fast! I love my BR. She's so sassy.

I can't wait for my BRs to get feathered! They only have feathers on the tip of their wings so far. Mine are about a week old.

what breed are these? we are getting 8 chicks later on today. they lok like they might be speckled sussex?

They are barred rocks. I have 3 of them and they are just now starting to show their "bars". I also have Buff Orps that are about the same age as your Barred Rocks. They too are getting curious, wanting to get out of the brooder. Unfortunately I have a cat and can't let them out. I think it frustrates them, especially Mable, the biggest. If she had her way she would be out and into everything.

Plymouth Barred Rocks or BR . I have 15 laying hens . And I know! The bars are sooooo pretty! Each one is different too quite like a zebra haha . Today is the first day I allowed them to stay there a lil bit and look around . They liked it I think !

oh okay!! I thought barred rocks were just meat birds? maybe I'm thinking of something else haha. I'm still new to this whole chicken thing. I think they speckled sussex are really pretty also, which is why I'm getting some haha. I told my boyfriend we are going to have so many eggs we are going to be giving them away! we are getting 8 chickens tonight if they all turn out to be hens then holy cow! 4 of them which are heavy layers 200-300 a year plus we got 5 ducklings and 2 of which are heavy layers again 250-300 a year. now of the 5 i believe one id a drake but wont know until later on. anybody want any eggs?! LOL

BR are dual purpose birds . They can be used for both meat and layers . -So are white rocks and partridge rocks . and a few others . U might have been thinking of the Cornish rocks . Those are broiler chickens aka meat birds.

Talk about having lots of eggs?? I have 15 Pullets.. Plus 4 ducks coming in 5 days .. I paid for the extra sexing so there will be NO drake . Haha I will have a GAGILLION EGGS haha

you know what I am thinking of the cornish! I saw them at TSC the other day and wanted to get them...good thing I did my research first, eh?
hahah I hope the rest of my ducks are hens...if I have 2 drakes I'm either going to have to eat one, sell one, or get more hens.... and yeah, you are going to have a lot of eggs! I will have 6 chicken/duck breeds that lat 300 eggs a year thats already too much not including the others. if all turn out to be pullets. is this your first year with laying hens?
