Getting broilers on June 16-HELP :)

My daughter has decided to take broilers to the fair this year. We have friends that have done this and have been very successful. I just want as much sound advice that I can get from anyone out there that has done this before. With it being our first time I have heard horror stories and I want to do right by these chickens cornish X is our broiler of choice this year -thanks for any help
