I've been asking my hubby for chickens for several years. I think he thought it would be like the horse I wanted, I'd give up if he ignored the idea long enough. FAT CHANCE. when I was a child we had chickens and bunnies. My daughter and her family had chickens and my grandson Jaxon absolutely loved them. They were so much fun to watch and the eggs were amazing. I have been unable to work for almost 3 years now due to severe arthritis, but last year I told my husband all I wanted for my birthday was a coop and chickens. He said ok, then we could get any at that time (sept) unless we ordered online. Well here it is almost a year later and I said no more making me wait. I'm building my coop and I'm getting my chickens. Or I might be mouthing my hubby's untimely demise!!! (Just kidding, he's ok, I'll just keep him) my grandsons are so excited I'm gonna get chickens. And I'm excited tio have fresh eggs. And I think chickens have such great personalities. I have 3 dogs, a senior Queensland heeler, and 2 rat terrors (terriers, but the auto correct seemed so appropriate in this case), and 3 strictly inside kitties (the old man is 19 and youngsters are 5 & 6). They love watching the birds from their window seats so I think they'll be equally entertained by the chickens. I have a lot of experience in woodworking. I have made several baby cradles for friends and family and I build th headboard for our bed. And now am working on a clock for my son and his wife for their anniversary. I have a fairly large garden and lots of flowers and plants in my Front yard. We have put in fruit trees and lots of berries and grapes and other plants, then spend all my time outside as soon as the weather gets nice enough to be out there. my Husband Is not a gardener or a handyman. He's a truck driver. So if it isn't polished aluminum or chrome, he has no interest in it. So if I want something made or done, I'm pretty much in my own. I learned how to build things from my dad and grandpa. Lucky for me I wasn't too girlie to want to learn. I'm looking for a coop with a materials list and fairly detailed instructions. Or at least a good outline of the steps. I'm only planning on having maybe 6-7 chickens enough for us to have all the eggs we need and then to have enough to share with my neighbor across the street , she's a gay young gal with a son and daughter. She is always available to help me when I need it and had been so great since my husband had a heart attack last summer. Any ideas on where to find th plans for a coop would be appreciated. Can't wait to look into all th stuff on this website. Thanks for reading my long winded intro. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as my project progresses.
