Today I saw the girls dart at him once or twice, but nothing serious.. only stepping a foot or so towards him then going back to their business. When the girls first arrived and established their pecking order there was no nastiness, there is just a clear hierarchy. At one point the dog got into the chooks. I had one seriously injured hen that I had to remove and hospitalise. When I re-introduced her she got slightly bullied.. but no blood lost and no feathers pecked.
Fingers crossed I can keep him happy & healthy! I'll be home every day for the next week so if it looks like the girls are pecking at him he will be moved. Most of them have very short top beaks (ex-egg farm chooks) so I'd hope to catch any bad behaviour before it gets out of hand.
Little rooster seems very happy though. Chatting away to himself this afternoon and scratching about. He was confident enough to have some pellets close to the girls tonight and now when I have looked in the coop they are letting him snuggle up close.
I never knew you could set your keyboard to French....
