Hi there,

Looking for a clever way to get more protein in to the diet of my hens without feeding their own protein back to them like i've seen suggested elsewhere on the boards. I saw an earlier post about sprouts, mung bean or others. Anyone given this a shot?

Thanks for the help.

Love and Light to all,

Miko

Cat food, dog food, meat scraps, tuna, most anything will work. In these cold days, energy is more important than protein. Cat or dog food would supply both.

BOSS (black oil sunflower seeds) and mealworms are high protein treats

or simply switch to a higher protein feed, that would be super-easy

I am wondering why are you not feeding them the shells ? It want hurt them ,it is actually good for them . Black seeds also . I mix both and give it to them as a treat .

We feed Barley and fishmeal, with an addition of oyster shell in winter.
The fishmeal makes for excellent egg laying, and no, the eggs do not taste like fish
