Getting Piggies Tomorrow *PICS* Post 14

Four families, including my own, are doing a garden and pork co-op this year. They've left getting the pigs up to me. I found an ad on Craigslist for 1/4 Berkshire 3/4 Duroc weaners and I will be going to the breeder to pick out two piggies. I am really excited its been 15 years since I've had pigs. If I like what I see I'll put a deposit and pick them up next weekend. I'll get pics of course

That's awesome! We're going to be getting Berkshires and Red Wattles this fall. We're also doing a little community co-op with chickens, veg and pork! It'll be a while but I'll post pics of ours when we get started!

I'll be there at 11 this morning to take a look at the piggies. I did see one pic, but I want to make sure there's no one that looks sick and take a look at the parents. I'll get pics too, hopefully.

Welllll.... last night I had the go ahead from everyone in the co-op.... except my MIL

. Her office is just down the road from where I was going to look at the piggies so I called her and asked if she'd like to come along. After hearing about the price she asked me to do a little more calling around. Shoot

I went and looked at the piggies myself and they were all good sized and healthy. I have a call into the FFA coordinator for the highschool and hopefully she might have a lead for me on some less expensive pigs. If not I think we are SOL because I doubt these piggies will last until the weekend. They were being sold fast. If i don't hear back from the FFA lady by this evening I am going to go purchase the pigs anyway.

I started following a blog from a guy, Bruce King, who raises pigs in Snohomish county. He sells pigs little to those who want to raise their own. Good information on the blog about raising, butchering, feeding, cost to raise, etc.

I'm in Port Orchard -- not too far from you

I just went and paid for my piggies this morning. I made and 'executive' decision and picked them out and paid for them. They are so cute!! My daughter wanted to pet them but they're not all that friendly -- which is fine by me. We'll be picking them up on Sunday and I'll get some pics then. My daughter picked out a white and brown one and another one that is mostly brown with a tiny bit of white and some black spots.
