Your orps ironically looks like these guys. He looks like yours could fit right in doesnt it? and in some ways even better wich to me is pretty funny. Safe to say if he were an aussi bantam he would be cleanin some clocks. the pics say it all. HAVE A GREAT TIME, Would LOVE to be there checking out all the birds.

Orps were used heavily in the AustralORP breed. Notice the lower body of my bird, forward set, shorter legs, etc.

Thanks for noticing my bird. He is one of my favorites

Hes a great bird I just LOVE him!!!

I was trying to check that part out but some of it kinds got cut off .I have one hen who we call pants for that reason. her little fluff for a long time came right down to her feet. Have to admit hes almost little carbon copy of those birds. My eyes popped out when I first saw him. I couldnt beleive what I was seeing like a mirage
big_smile.png
Turned out he was a mirage , hee hee, darned good one.I thought at some point the aussis crossed back onto the orps, this kind of confirms it for me. the australorps was based on the orpingtons name australorps makes sence. they used orps, leghorns, and some maybe javas and sumatras. US lorps lean toward the leghorns just a little more. maybe this is an answer to that. breed back into orps , there has to be a formula for it. I should ask over at the australian site, they were discussing it a while ago, some guy called ancient australorps was telling the way they came up with todays version. It was after the little red dog ate our show flock (and the neighbors silki , land lady amherst pheasant flock) and I was only halfheartedly paying attention to what they were talking about.

I know you got lots to do and are already tired so I'll shut up...Just wanted to say your Orps has a fan club of ME now. GOOD LUCK!

Thank you so for the kind comments. I will tell JR (the bantam orp). Maybe he will puff up pretty for the judges

My advice is to post your question under the Breeding, Genetics. There are a quite a few people on this site who are genetic gurus.
