So I will be getting some chicks next spring (yes I know it's only July *almost* but I like planning WAY in advance) do you have any experience with these breeds, the hatchery my pet chicken, and can you post pics of your birds of these breeds. Also how is the breed representation from my pet chickens chicks
Thanks

I have had many Speckled Sussex and I have been VERY happy with them. They have done very well here in Alabama. They are good layers, good natured, funny, a lot of very distinct personalities, and have been good mothers. All of my roosters are speckled Sussex and have all done their job very well. All around great breed.

I have not had Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, but have some Silver Laced Wyandottes and again have been happy with them. They were smaller than I imagined they would be. The first year, they seemed much puffier than they are now. But again, good layers but more skittish than the Sussex.

Hope it helps a little.

Thanks I had one SS but she passed when I only had her for a week she was adult though. I like them smaller so that works great and thanks for the reply

Most of my pet chickens birds are from Meyer, some more common breeds are hatched by them. Just something to think about.

Ok is that bad?
Not necessarily, probably a good thing thing, considering meyer has a minimum order of [ I think] 25 chicks and their shipping was high if you order less. I went to order some chicks and I think the price for the cheapest chicks was about $5 each, I wanted 10 sussex and it was $45 for the chicks and $50 for shipping.
