Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

**heads over to check it out**

Day 5 is over.

I candled with Bernie tonight. We did not look at all 374 eggs but we got about 120 done.

The Breda fowl looked great. They were the first eggs we candled so seeing 11 spider webs made a nice start. The Swedish flower eggs I was sent instead of peafowl were mostly clear. Guineas look great. The ones marked G1 were 90% keepers. Jumbo Pekins had 4 clear regular pekins had 3 clear. Welsh harlequin and rouen were 5 clear each or blood rings. It leaves us with 46 ducks looking good.

The flashlight started to fade so we will get fresh batteries and try to complete tomorrow night.

We put 9 local eggs that look good in the hatcher. Two had internal pipping.

Yes I was told to go there once during one of my rants. Its a fun place to share thoughts with people who have a good grasp of reality.

Well, most of 'em. I am still reeling from my acknowledgement I truly am a crazy chicken lady. At least "crazy" does not equal "stupid."

I should look for that photo of me in my Extra Secure Long Sleeved Jacket.

I will take a look. Not easily offended - after living in Alabama for 10 years, there is very little that I can think of that offends me. Most of what I encounter I find humorous. Alabama is a beautiful place with really nice people that are well meaning, but do not realize exactly what they are saying. One of my favorites was being told that I need to speak "American." Ok, so that one was in Mississippi, not Alabama, but I have heard similar things locally...

Two of my home grown eggs have hatched into chicks. More to come.

We moved the chicks from the last hatch from the brooder to their coop.
The OGM splash marans looks like a cockerel. The Andalusians from HFR, the Buff Orps from Piglett and Kevs naked necks are all healthy.

Lots of lavender orps BBS orps RIR BBS Jersey Giants and barred rocks.

Our three week old Guinea Fowl joined the chicks in the coop. We put a cover on the run to keep them in there.

The chicks and keets will stay inside for a week then they will be free to roam outside but within their premises.

Six chicks moved to the brooder.

Its a fun day on the chicken ranch by the sea
