Davao is a beautiful area. Mindanao get a bad rap because of the people who who are fighting for independent governance there. Fortunately, only the eastern edge of Mindanao is troublesome.

I am going to be lost this weekend. Its the first long weekend I have had in 2 years that I have not gone to the Phils. This one is just too close to my last one-month adventure.

SO now I am going to do NOTHING. Well almost nothing. I will skype with Mrs Oz and the kids whenever I can. I have my niece and nephew over tomorrow to weigh and candle the eggs I got from www.odysseyranch.com - black blue splash giant cochins. I am waiting for them to candle - I haven't even peeked. I also have to finish unpacking. Not my favorite task. The final thing will be to do the blueprints for the next batch of coops.

The current coop is a duplex but needs the center divide in the outside area. Each side will hold about 30 adults. I have 38 chicks - probably 18-20 pullets. I will cull all but 3 roos. I am hoping that the BCM, BA or one of the pure RIRs I have is a boy. The other side will house the hatchees from the next round - well some of them - all these will be the egg producers.

My current plan is to build a row house coop - 6 coops side by side with a roo and 5 - 7 purebred hens in each. The coops will be 6x4 inside, an under-coop area sheltered and then a 12 x 4 run. These will be the girls and boys that will help develop the breeds in the Philippines - the trios and quads I hope to sell as well as hatching eggs and oz-bators in the future. The roof will be thatch, the floors will be bamboo but I am unsure of the materials I will use for the cladding.I have enough of the scrap wood to use again but perhaps I will try and get the 1 inch round bamboo, then varnish it - I love that look. The other option is 1/2 inch plywood with a woven bamboo matting on the outside - then varnished. Its spectacular. The wood I used on the last coop is free - but I am thinking of incorporating that into a fence for the yard - it will get utilized regardless. We re-purpose everything. Nails get saved as well as wood.

The only thing we don't reuse is the dried paint and the only part of the animal we don't eat is its squeal.
So many things going on!

I wish I could have so many chickens! (maybe not as many as you have, perhaps, but more than just four.)

Back from Mexico, love your new pics :) it was dark when I got home so I haven't seen my chicks in a week! My actual babies got first dibs on mama :) my feathered babies will have to wait for tomorrow. How are the eggs doing??

thanks for stopping by. I hope Mexico was not too stressful.

The orps are doing OK 9/12 are fertile but they all have severely deformed air cells from there ride over from TN. Because of the air cell shape- they look like they are about 5 days ahead of schedule. Due 2/26

The BBS Cochins are dark eggs. Its only day 6 so I am not culling any yet but I am expecting a few clears.

Just wanted to say I have so enjoyed reading this thread of the Great Chicken Migration! It took me a few days to get through all 70+ pages. I can't wait to see how thing progress when you get your breeding stock across the pond and all hatched out...living vicariously through you btw...
