Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Here in the US I had Cezarian section on Medi-Cal.... They sent me home after 24 hours and as a first time mom and single parent holding down the couch was not an option. You will be surprised at how quickly you will have to "hold her down".....

Fortunately a law was enacted to stop discharging c-sections in cali at 24 hrs. They get 3 days now. That practice was barbaric.

They discharged you at 24 hours after a C??? YOUCH!!! All four of mine were C's (something to do with only being 4'11" and not quite "wide enough" I guess). I spent four days with the first two and three days with the second two.

Because my crew all came within a few months of each other (11 months from first kid to second kid, then 16 months, then 13 months)...sitting around and resting wasn't really an option. Hubby took a week off of work each time, but still.

With the last little guy, I had a 3 1/2 yr old, a 2 1/2 yr old, and a 13 month old. There was no such thing as resting, lol. I paid dearly for it, too. Within a few weeks, I found myself back at the hospital doubled over in pain because I had slightly opened the internal incision. Honestly, I'm pretty sure THAT pain was the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life.

Anyways, I couldn't imagine having to be sent home within 24 hours of the surgery. Yikes.

The adventure continues....

After much ruminating over the risks versus benefits, we are adding pigs to the farm.

We will start slowly and see how Bernie's wife copes. I had him put the word out that we wanted 3 little pigs. It took about 3 hours lol. Pigletts of unknown ancestory run 1800 pesos in the market. A local lady has a 220kg monster sow that produced 10 pigletts 5 weeks ago today for 2300p. So......

Fortunately I had not converted the free-standing pig pen into a chicken coop (the triplex are now the isolation coops). Its just a matter of getting them home, giving them 5 days of their current feed then transitioning them to home blended.

Analou is a pig farmer!

Oz, what are the risks of pig farming? Aside from...they stink. Bad.

Quote: At the time I had no health insurance. When I went on disability to have my son I then qualified to apply for something called Medi-Cal. Which will pay for childbirth and or emergency surgery. Not many doctors will take Medi-Cal insurance. Fortunately for me my existing OB accepted it. He was retiring and happened to be one of the best to the point he taught.... There were students in the room observing when he did mine.

The deal was I was 34 and a first time mom AND my son was a Franks Breach. They tried to turn him but that didnt work. So Cesarian was the only option. And at a starting cost of about 15 grand in 1989, Medi-Cal was the only option. But they mandated at the time that they would only pay for 24 hours....

Don't y'all start now with the scary child birthing stuff. We've got one on the way. Already had one, it was easy enough... not a walk in the park, but easy enough.

I love pigs. I used to be obsessed with them as a teen. I actually asked my mom for a pig every time Christmas or my birthday came around. There was a lady in town who had two potbellies, leash trained and everything.... I never got the pig. I love the bigguns as much as the little ones. They're really smart and pretty affectionate. And tasty..

I love pigs too. I love the way they talk to you when you do stuff for them or you give them a skritch behind the ear....
