Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Oh I know how big a deal it is for things to finally go smoothly and to see good, measurable results. I was just being facetious, it sounded funny as you put it, even though it's a really big deal to possible be 'out of the red' so to speak. You're finally producing eggs on the property, rather than having to bring them in.

I'm sure as your audience we're all thrilled for you! I surely did not mean to make it seem like it's not a big deal.

no worries.

As time progresses, the finish line moves. my goals have changed. I was caught off guard by Analou's text message. i knew the purebreds had started laying but was not writing the numbers down. We also had a setback with incubating this week and had to change incubators mid hatch so I was not hopeful on the hatch.

Yesterday evening we were juggling coops and I also realized that the Banty Cochins did not fare a bug as well as I thought - I was expecting 5 - we have a sole roo and a golden sebright hen. So now what do I do with them? I misunderstood prior communications. What I like about whats app is that it stores the whole conversation - even if you lose your phone- so I can go back and pull numbers or quote a previous discussion.

Seeing the numbers on my phone pepped me up again!

Quote: game birds have the same type meat? white? lol sorry I am clueless, We have only processed brahma and cochin! and as a kid I dont remember! I know geese and duck were dark ha ha ha

I am ordering some meaties, I think for my first go I will get some cornish x cheaply because I really dont want long term work with meaties, 8 weeks if they make it and in the pan. I am going to make a run/coop that I can dismantle for the summer and put back up in the fall for another batch. I like things to look nice and do not want to be swimming in the pool smelling chicken poop after a summer drench

I agree with Piglett.... With my Wellies I had three roos. There was one that was the Alpha and he claimed ALL the hens.... But he couldnt keep his back turned too long because one of the other roos would sneak in a lick.... And if he got too busy bustin feather with him the third one would get in there.... The deal is when i turrned them out to free range they would take up postitions away from each other and Watch.... for predators and each other.

Even my bigger flock years ago I had thirty chickens I had at least five or six roos of varying ages.... lots of game in the flock so they were wiley.... The roos would defend against predators and I would lose one now and then. There was always an up and comer to take his place.

deb
snicker..... sneak in a lick

gotcha,,,, freaked for a minute... I pray you have more luck and happiness with them than I... Cant stand the boogers! and Boogers that stink something fierce for being so small!

I am going to add you to our orders list, we only have 2 older CCL girls laying until these other pullet eggs turn into bigguns, thats why I am not offering shipped eggs yet only local pick up as I can hold eggs for 14 days and then hatch them. I may be able to get a few brahma from the adults if all goes well, I am still getting those blue calcium deposits on the eggs! I am starting to think its a breed thing so if you dont have issue with a few spots? We have a worming scheduled I will have to see when that falls, I know DH figured it out between the two big chick orders we have.
