Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Quick off topic, candling question.....

I set eggs last Saturday at around 11:30AM. I candled one this morning, just for curiosity's sake.... I am beginning to think that I may have done everything backwards..... I have them in the turner pointy end down... is that right? I'm also candling pointy end down.

Yes, they go in the turner, pointy end down, wide end up. Try shining your light down through the air cell. I think I see some veins coming down the front of the egg at the top (air cell). If so, you're good to go. You won't see much with candling until day 7 and later. Things really get hopping around day 10 (literally) when you can see the babies dancing around in the eggs. Happy hatching.

LOL Wisher! That's just awesome! My BF has a bunch of power tools and his dad, a really good carpenter, is helping, nay GUIDING, us all in the construction of our coop. It's really coming along! We added the four nest boxes, and are going to put up four more, just to have lots for when we expand, we just have to put the hinged door with locks on the back, add the roosts, a ladder or two, and surround the whole thing in hardware cloth! Also filling the ditch we have mostly dug with concrete. My BF had a good idea too. He works for a landscaper part time, and they trimmed back a TON of rose bushes and kept all the trimmings, so outside of the concrete-filled ditch, we will sink thorned branches ALL around the outside. Some body trying to dig outside the concrete ring is going to end up with an infected paw!!! but I too enjoy building things! My BF is very good at it, so he was being way more precise with making everything square and level and it REALLY pays off! I'm learning

Oh yeah.

I will get Mrs Oz out with the post hole digger after lunch and prepare the divorce papers at dinner. Lol

Ditto

Hubby is talking about buying me a pneumatic nail framing gun this spring... Other women get excited about a boquet of flowers... Me... give me power tools and a load of manure... New coop in the plans.
Nope, not me. I keep telling my hubby I can do it if I want to, but the truth is I like a man who is handy and does all my projects. And trust me there are lots of projects.
