Getting the Humidity Up

I will aim for 99... I very rarely hit anything right on the mark.

What troubles me most at the moment is that the fan isn't working... If it isn't one thing it's his brother.

Thank you both for jumping in here -- I feel I am in good hands with great advice.

No, no.

More like between 99.5 and 101. I generally aim for 100.

102 will work, but then if you have a temp spike from 102, it could get dangerous. . .

Yes 99.5 is the best. 102 too hot. They will cook.

101/102 is a recommend temp for still air incubators but if the incubator is forced air yes it will cook them.

Ok 1 question do you have a fan to move air?

if so keep at 99-100

Humidity....
have you tested your hygrometer? they can be off quiet a bit sometimes.
Do you add hot water? if so the humidity will shoot up from the steam but settle down in a hour or 2.... I add water no hotter then 102F to help stop this

sea sponges work great in a dish of water(lots of surface area with all those holes!).. also people use diapers, pads, rags, sponges, anything that absorbs water and has surface area. you want to wick the water out of the dish into the air so a rag in a bowl of water might not do much but put something to hold it up above the dish with half in water will do a lot.

I'm sure you can find any info here! BYC is a chickens best friend

I do have a fan and it is now turning. I have a reo-stat so the bulb can be precisely regulated -- but when the bulb is turned down there was not enough juice to turn the fan. So the fan now has it's own electrical cord. I am at 99.9 degrees with a humidity level of 45. To better control the humidity I have portions of sponges that I can add to or take away from which seem to be doing well. I've added another small portion of sponge to bring up the humidity a bit. For right now I am going to leave things alone for a bit.

Thanks so much for all your expert knowledge and experience. I would so hate for my ignorance to be the end for these eggs. Your help is appreciated beyond measure.

Jenny
