Oh my gosh, where do I begin.
I live in an old house, built in 1768 and have been here 15 years so there are many stories. I will give you a couple right now.
Ever since we moved in my children all see ghosts.
The week we moved in one of my daughters who was 4 years old asked me why we were living with other people.
She said that she thought we were getting our own house.
I told her we are the only ones here and she said, no, there is a lady and a guy that comes out of the fireplace all the time and then there is a black man who doesn't wear any shoes.
She said they are here all the time.
Soon after that my neighbor who is also the town historian came by with a picture for me.
It was a picture of the house from the 1800s and the family was standing on the front lawn.
There in the picture was the black man my daughter sees.
She knew immediately who it was.
My son who was only two years old at the time use to talk to people in the attic.
One time I I walked past the attic door, which is only a couple of feet high, you have to crawl in there and I heard him talking.
He was saying so what are you doing, what do you want to do, what do you want to play?
I pulled him out of there and he was crying to go back in.
After that I put a lock on the door so he couldn't go back in.
We were eating breakfast one morning when he turned quickly over his shoulder and yelled I'm coming!
So he ran upstairs and I followed him, he started banging on the attic door and crying to go in.
Sometimes you can hear conversations going on and no one is home.
Like you will come home from somewhere and when you walk in you hear all these voices, like a dinner party or gathering. When it first happend I thought I left the television on and went to shut it off and it wasn't on.
That use to happen alot.
One night my house phone rang, the caller ID said it was coming from my cell phone.
I thought I lost my phone or something and ran to the dining room to check my pocket book, sure enough my phone was there and it wasn't even turned on.
My youngest daughter who is 4 years old, sees a little girl all the time.
Alot of people died here over the years, but we know for a fact that a young girl died in the 1800s, the town historian has the diaries and census and stuff like that.
He know everything about this house.
Just the other night she went in her room and came running over to me and said, there is a kid in my doorway.
I said well what is he/she doing and she said just standing there looking at me.
Now she sees her all the time and said its a girl who stands in her doorway most of the time but sometimes she is in her room.
I remember when my son was 3 (he is 6 now) he would sometimes go into a panic right in front of her doorway and point and scream that there was a monster and would get so upset because we didn't see it.
He would freeze and not walk by, you would have to pick him up and run by that area.
We found a headstone in our basement a couple of years ago.
Here is the thing, we have been here 15 years and our basement has a dirt floor, and its small and musty.
We don't store anything down there but paint.
My husband and I have been down there many times over the years and never saw anything else down there but the paint.
One day he goes down to get some paint and comes upstairs to tell me he found a headstone.
It was leaning against the wall right at the bottom of the stairs.
It was just propped up right there. If it had been there before we would seen it.
It was one of those thin, white soapstone kinds.
It was blank.I went over to the historian's house to tell him about it and he told me that they use to buy them in bulk because the stonecutter only came this way every so often, he said when someone died then they put the name on it.
You could also order headstones from Sears and Roebuck and have the names added later.
One night I as laying in bed reading and waiting for my husband to get home from work.
I heard him come in and slam something heavy down on the floor by the kitchen door.
It sounded like a toolbox but he doesn't carry one, so I thought maybe he picked up a couple of cases of water or soda, (he does that sometimes) and dropped them on the floor.
So then I hear his keys jangling real loud and I thought to myself, wow they must have given him alot more keys at work.
Then I hear him talking to my son.
All the little ones were in bed, but my teenager was still up.
I remember thinking that they were so loud they would wake the kids.
They were in the other part of the house, so I wasn't sure what they were saying, but it went on for about 5 minutes.
I remember thinking it was odd that he didn't pop into the bedroom to say hi to me because thats what he usually does if I am in there when he gets home.
Then he went into the hallway, right outside my bedroom to where the closet is to change out of his uniform.
So I waited a few more minutes for him to come to bed and when he didn't I got up to see what he was doing.
He wasn't there, I looked outside, no car in the driveway.
I look around for a case of water or something that he could have dropped loud enough to make that noise.
Nothing.
Well, I go upstairs to ask my son if he knows where he could have gone since I had heard them talking, my husband is a homebody and does not go out unless its with me.
So, my son says I don't know I heard him come in and he was being real loud, then I heard him talking to you for a few minutes.(it wasn't me, I thought he was talking to my son)
He said I came downstairs to see if Dad got any soda or something because I heard him drop down something loud when he came in and I was kind of hoping it was a case of soda. When I came down to check he wasn't here.
I said did you hear any keys? He said yeah, I noticed how loud they were jangling and Dad only has a couple of keys.
So, now we go back and forth, I tell him that dad wasn't talking to me and he said he wasn't talking to him.
Neither one of us saw him, but we both clearly heard all of the same things.
So I called my husband at work and asked him where he was and he said, I am just leaving work, I am on my way home now.
Yikes!
This post is getting kind of long so I will give you one more for now.
I had a yard sale last summer and a woman came up to me and said that there was a woman looking out the window, looking down at us.
So I was like uh okay. So she says, this woman is a spirit.
So she tells me that she works up the street at our local hospital and she lives around here and all that.
So she asked if she could go into our house, her son (adult son) was already in the house with my husband looking at a trunk we had been discussing with him.
He was taking a look at it to see if he could fix the lock.
So anyway, she goes into the house and walks around for a minute and then sits on my couch.
She tells me there are many many spirits here and one is a lonely little girl. She said the girl follows me around from room to room because she wants to be where everyone is.
She says to me, "she is here in this room right now, look at my arm" and the hair on her arm was standing straight up.
It was very hot and humid that day so it wasn't cold where your hair would be standing up.
So her son walks into the room and his mother said, did you any spirits here? He says, just a guy in the bedroom.
So anyway, she left after telling me all about the many spirits here.
I myself have seen a man just standing there looking at me as I walked into the dining room.
Well, there is a couple of tidbits for now. There is so much more.
