Ghost????

My brother got married in North Carolina a couple of weeks ago....it was the first time any of us had been there (except his now-wife; that's where her family is from). The reception was indoor/outdoor, and the flower girls spent the entire time chasing frogs that were climbing the windows, swimming in the pool, and in general all over the place. They were in frog heaven!

How funny-- that picture is on the wall of Amelie's bedroom, and it even comes alive at one point. I bet you'll like the movie.

In 2005 a psychologist named Jesse Bering performed an experiment examining how the idea of ghosts affects people's behavior:

As part of his research, Bering examined how subjects were affected by the perceived presence of a dead agent. He had three separate groups of subjects take a computerized test where the highest score earned a $50 prize. The subjects were told that the computer program had a glitch in it — sometimes the correct answer to a question would pop up on the screen with the question. This presented them with the opportunity to “cheat” at the task. By pressing the space bar, the subjects were told, they could delete the correct answer before they read it so they could respond truthfully.

One of the groups read a made-up memoriam before the test, stating that the fictional graduate student who developed the test had died. Another group also read the memoriam, and were casually told that the graduate student’s ghost had been spotted in the very room where they were taking his test. Those assigned to the third group heard nothing about a dead graduate student.

Bering found that the subjects who were told about the ghost were generally less likely to cheat, because the subjects hit the space bar more rapidly than those in the other two groups.

“Cross-culturally, we’re seeing evidence of a belief in the absolute causal power of people who’ve died,” Bering said. “If I perceive that someone is evaluating me, whether it be my dead grandmother or God, I’m less likely to commit a transgression, possibly because I’m afraid of the consequences.”

Rillion, Come on back in the Fall for a pig roast and sweet potato pie.

Wonder if we just keep on doing what we knew when we pass on through to the other side? My great uncle before he passed got up everyday, dressed, bid his roommate a good day and 'went to work' past the nurse's station. He's probably overseer for farm somewhere. His wife had been a florist. We all commented that she must have put in her 2 cents because not a single spray of flowers sent her for her funeral were the same. Classy lady to the end.

What a great thread! I just spent the last hour reading over everything. I always thought it would be neat seeing ghosts but once, I dreamt I saw a chair move by itself across the floor and in the dream I was scared sh--less! Ever since then I'm not so sure?!

COOL!

Unfortunately, the tombstone is not the boy but neverthanless, its so interesting! I can not figure out HOW it would fall over.....

Beautiful pictures!

Is that the pict of the tombstone that was suppose to have fallen on the boy?
I can see in the close up where it looks as if it has been broken off and set back together, but is it stable on there now??? weird..... Hopefully it wont fall on anyone else.

WHAT THA...!

Okay, now I am getting freaked out.

Does anyone else see how the white reflection above the boys head looks like the actual tombstone, just fallen over ? Sans the top?

ETA: It is also the only tombstone (shown in the photo) that looks anything like the reflection.

Wow... I love reading about stuff like this, and love watching Ghost Hunters and Paranormal State. I can't imagine that anyone would want to play a trick like that... did anyone know in advance that they would be taking photos there? The way the face is looking out, looks like a timid child, not wanting to be seen, but wanting to watch the festivities... like children sitting on the upper banister while the grownups were having a dinner party downstairs.

Very cool stuff.

I am not sure if that is the right tombstone. I am just going by what my 76 year old mother told me. She described the tombstone and as soon as we pulled up I walked to that tombstone because it looked just like what she described. It was the only one that had an urn on the top. I didn't touch it so I don't know if it is attached but I am assuming it has a metal rod or something holding it up. I am going to call a lady tonight that we know, who has been a member of that church for many years and see if she knows the story. I do have great confidence the story is true as the 90++ year old black lady the told my mom the story would never have told her that if it wasn't true. She was one of those Saint on the earth people I will never be!!! I will keep ya'll informed.......

That last pic of the reflexion/tombstone does any one see a face looking out from the break in the reflexion/tombstone?? I will say the glass is VERY wavy as it is original to the house (1781). It is cool to see the faces, whether they are real or not.

I found three faces, plus the little boys face. Did you see my earlier post of the different rotations of the photo?
