Giant Broad Breasted Turkeys?????

I didn't want them so large, they were only 20 weeks old. I wanted to process them sooner but all of my customers wanted them fresh not frozen. I warned them they were going to be very large, but I sure didn't think they would be this large.......

I am putting Mr. Christmas in the freezer this afternoon. I'll take a pic of him next to some normal object so you can get a size idea. Still can't find a pan for Mr. Thanksgiving.......considering splitting in half.

I guess we won't be stuffing him!

i'd like to get a few turkeys next spring, and was considering the BB's, but maybe i'll go with one of the others, as I'm looking for the best taste, not really the biggest. tho, with over 30 coming for dinner, we could eat the 40 lb one.

Miss P. - That recipe of cheesecloth with butter and wine basting sounds great! We'll try that with our next cornish X.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one that uses real butter anymore.

Miss Prissy, your bird looks like it will be wonderful! At 15 min. per lb guess I had better get mine in the oven. He is a BBB and dressed out at 36.5 lbs. I am planning on 9+ hours. I had a hard time finding a large enough pan that would still fit in the oven. I just hope I don't dry him out. I coated him in olive oil and rubbed him in turkey rub. I have the butter ready... Happy Turkey Day!

He looks like he'll be yummy! But...you aren't gonna try to use that pan are you? The broth will quickly fill any space left in that and run over in the oven. I always put a very small amount of water in the bottom so the forst dripping don't scorch, but even without that, you'll have broth/drippings running all over. You need a much bigger pan! Even if you split this one in half, I think you'll need a bigger pan.

That's one mega bird. Unless you're feeding an army, you should have a lot of leftovers. One of the best parts of Thanksgiving, IMO, is leftovers!

Did you see my post above, about the size of the pan?

What the heck is that at the left corner of the pan? It looks like bubbles, in the pic. Optical illusion?

Happy Thanksgiving to everybody!

The "bubbles" is actually green plastic wrap that he was covered with!

He is sitting on a wire rack in the pan so I think we'll be okay drippings wise. I can also suck some out if it gets too full. With all of the basting going on, I'll be able to keep close eye on the liquid, I think! Not many pan options, it's the largest that fits in the oven.........!

Have a great Turkey Day!
