Gads I know all this, it's just now that I HAVE PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE of these "things" I have no choice than to plan my attack. PLUS what grosses me out so badly is trust me when I say WE LIVE IN THE CITY. We are in a primarily mexican neighborhood. There are only 4 other non hispanic households. It's wonderful. Super friendly. AND, I told my hubby, if I have to leave my mountain home, the only thing that will make this easier is for me to be able to have chickens like everyone else in the neighborhood. Luckily for me, he thought it was a great idea too. Just NOT the rats!!! And believe me as much as I HATE this part of it. There's no choice the ratS must GO!

I am always stating that here in holland (I live in city ) we do not have the preds you all do in the USA... I must retract that as we do have these god-awful rats too *shudder* though I have not to my knowledge been burdened with them as a problem in my yard...
I was at the city park here (we have stream and pond meandering through it) where we have a resident population of ducks and geese (so tame they will eat out of your hand). Well my daughters grade school was within walking distance of this park and on occasion we would go there to eat lunch. So we are sitting there and feeding the duckies (mamma duck and ducklings) and giving them some bread crumbles and such I had brought along to feed them and my gawd one of those monsters just sauntered out of the bushes and stole the crumbs we had thrown down (chasing off the mamma duck) ..... *GAG*

When I was growing up in northern Indiana, we had such big rats when my dad would shoot them he put them in a 5 gallon bucket.

They where so big their hind legs and tail would still be sticking out of the bucket. He would stand at our back door and shoot them when they ran from the back of one shed to the garage.

They where the size of a small/medium dog.

I did the same of wondering where you live. We live north in Redding and hope none of those find their way up Highway 5. I don't think our cat would even try to take that one on.

If you need some I will be HAPPY to send you some. ould use one of my SHipping boxes and put about 10 in there and you can have a nice start of nasty sick giant chicken eating RATS.

OMG, do you live near a nuclear plant? Years back in Europe after the Tschernobyl accident everything was bigger and up to this day my parents would call something like this a "Tschernobyl rat".

As they say thanks but NO thanks - although they would be good target practice.

YowZ! Those rats are nasty and big. Reminds me of some that were in The Roach Appleton Co. ( RACO ) that I worked at in South Bend IND. Some of the rats were as big as cats.

We have some pretty big Pack Rats in the desert. One lives beside my wash under an Ironwood tree. It has a nest/house built kind of like a Beaver house with the sticks weaved in and out. I have not seen it yet however my dogs keep after the spot.
