I have 2 BO & 3 BR. All are 17 weeks old on Thursday. One of the BO is acting strange. Sitting alot, seems to be dazed. She is eating & drinking and does not appear sick. Could she be getting ready to lay her first egg?

No, she is drinking, eating, but staying away from the rest of the girls. I checked this AM and nothing. I checked her over the best I could and I don't see anything wrong with her. I just don't know. According to everything I have read, she is in the correct time frame for her to start laying.

I am kinda worried but not much I can do.

My 6 girls (2 RIR, 2 BS and 2 SLW) will be 13 weeks old tomorrow. When we first moved them to their coop at 7 weeks, we had to cover the nesting boxes, because they were roosting in them. They now all roost where they should (on the roosting bars), however the nesting boxes are still covered.

Should I take the cover off of the boxes? Won't they start roosting in them again?

I'm a newbie, and would appreciate any advise.

your hen will be laying any day now . as soon as she is about to lay her first egg, she will start squawking.

My hens sang and sang for I bet 2 weeks before they gave me an egg, they also had very red combs, and squatted. Is that how she is acting?
