Girl laid her first egg on Christmas Day!

One of my Light Sussex pullets, Bitsy, laid her first egg this morning! The first one I've had, thinking of renaming her Mary!

I've just found another in their nesting box! This one had some blood on it, is this normal? Can the same pullet lay twice in a day? None of them have laid before and only the one is squatting.

Quick! Put it back under her so she can hatch it; tradition says it should be fertile, rooster or no rooster!

It's possible but very rare. It's more likely that you have 2 laying. Blood happens sometimes, no need to worry unless it is a lot.

Blessed Solstice and Congrats!...days are now getting infinitesimally longer, we can't 'see' it but I think the birds can!
