Girls vs Girls

Really?? Cool!
Why? XD

Hey how old are ducks before you can tell their age?
Well, I start counting at day 1, of course! LOL. Well, ducks can be challenging. See, by week 4 they are about 85% full grown and feathered out. So basically, once they are feathered, you have no idea how old they are for sure.

OMG I feel stupid XD what gender they are? LOL

ok so here's the deal. Know how I love pigeons and want to breed them? Well we were picking up this super cheap shed i could've kept a few in. Nope, because the day we were supposed to go out we forgot and appearntly someone else was so they picked it up. Now not as ANNOYING as that is as we contacted them like an hour after they posted their ad, what if we came out at the same time or like half an hour later? "Oh we sold it"
And my mom doesn't even care!!!!!

LOL, I was wondering about your question, but I'd never leave an amiga in a lurch. So, around 5 or 6 months, sometimes sooner, male ducks develop a curly feather or two on their tails. Its usually right where the back meets the upswing of the tail feathers. Females don't ever have a curly feather. They are smooth.

You can also tell ducks apart a bit sooner from their vocal expressions. Pick them up at 3 or 4 monthes of age 1 at a time, and let them vocalize for you. Girl ducks have very loud clear QUACK QUACK QUACK sounds. Boys have a more muted/ muffled/ off sounds noise. It is NOT a good clear QUACK. I mean, it really sounds like the word "quack" when a girl says it, but boys are just like 1/2 power, and its not really a quack, more of a wonk or something. When you hear one quack vs one boy wonky noise, you'll forever hear the difference.

I'm really sorry your folks didn't get you the shed. Are there enough scraps about for you to make a frame and make your own? Maybe fully covered cages with front doors would be good. Scrap aluminum, wood, old plywood, backs off old pianos, whatever you can come up with to block wind on sides and have at an angle for roof on top would provide shelter. 1/2" stryofoam insulation is really cheap at hardware stores, and is easy to push into place after cutting inside your box to help insulate for them.

Ah, I see, I knew about the curly feather but never the quack, ill go try it out. I think ours are 4 months old. I think the Pekins a boy, he leads the pack

It's not their fault, it's the stupid guys fault >:[

Anyways need help ASAP, have a baby chick whose beak was broken to the side and couldn't keep in the house overnight due to his chirping, now he's dying. He's under a heat lamp, twitching every now and then. Any ideas? I put up a thread but it was of little use

There is practically nothing to do, cochin. Its nutrition you need. There is a thread here on special needs chickens, and another of cross beak chickens. THey will inform you of the proper way to make a "formula" and how to feed it, until it's bigger. Your gonna have to set and the beak, and superglue the outside if its broken, to hold it while heals.

Got a pic???

Text me if your desperate, Cochin.

New problem. She was doing ok-ish, downhill but as I was feeding her chick food (just setting 1 piece at a time in the back of her throat with sugar water every few pieces) I noticed she has air in her crop. I can set the beak, I can super glue it but I have no idea what to do about air in the crop.
Gonna text you, cause she's a sweet girl and I know she'll live but I don't think she will if she has freakin' air in her crop
(It's a sex linked chicken so it's a she >,< )

Thanks for the help, I did post at the cross Beak chicken thread but didnt get any replies very fast or Anything
