Are you looking for Breeding Birds or For meat? I've heard a lot of people have aggression issues among Africans. Hatchery quality sometimes have none or very small ones.

I'm gonna try to convince my mom to let me get some geese next year, and since your a waterfowl expert, what breed? I was thinking either pomeranian, embden, or, african. Also, are african MEAN? And do they have dewlaps?
I ALWAYS forget you don't have chickens!!!

I'm like one of the ONLY people on here who's never had chickens. Maybe Next year

Well are Africans supposed to? There was a farm book saying that Africans have been considered the most tame and I was like WTH?

However they had a pic of an african and it had a HUGE dewlap, like the time a, err, OK I don't know..

Well I'd probably want a smallish goose if I want to breed it, but if I can find a smallish goose breed or they can handle the winter w/o much shelter (I know geese have landmine poos

) which would probably mean a biggish goose but anyways yes I would breed them.

I MAY eat the extra ganders, but more then likely sell them. Not too interested in trying goose meat

If you start with chickens, or consider getting some, I am gonna nag you unless you already have a breed thought ouyt (do you know much on the breeds?)

For the Standard yes but a lot of specimens don't. For your case I would recommend Pomeranians.

Well, I mostly stick in the GJF area, but I like looking through "what breed/gender am i?" & flock behavoir, but I'm not terribly good at the diseases/emergencies because round here your dead or alive, not much of an inbetween.

Cochin, if you can't provide good warm sheltor, it would be best if you just ordered goslings (or hatched them, I can talk you through) and raised them until fall, and sold them as pairs and etc. Then, you don't have to warm them and pay to feed extras. You don't seem to keep many birds for over the winter.

Besides Sebbies most Geese have enough down to keep them fairly insulated.
