Giving Pills to a Chicken

Gotta redo the video, so it'll have to be tomorrow. My sister got mainly my fingers, & didn't capture the action of me placing the pill in his mouth in detail. Apologies.

I smush bread around the pill, they swallow it with no qualms! I also had a hen who would just peck it and eat it straight out of my hand.

To administer a tablet/pill just pull down on the wattles with one hand until the chicken will open the beak, and then slip the tablet/pill with your other hand into the beak from the side and let go of the wattles.

It is best done with the chicken sitting on your lap.

Put it on the ground, sternly say NO, NOT for YOU. they'll fight each over it to eat it.

Or plant it in the garden and cover it in wire.

Any tips on giving a chicken pills? I know all the info on putting them in their mouth, etc. However, I’m worried about her aspirating the pill (that’s why we are giving pills now, because of aspiration). She’s also a picky eater and we have run out of ideas. Anyone have any sneaky tricks to hide a pill in something edible for a hen with a 3 Michelin star pallet?

That's pretty much how I do it. Though probably quicker once I get the beak open, as at that point there is maximum struggling. They don't like it!

He was being stubborn today. He was more cooperative with yesterday's video Attempt.

Yeah, chickens don't like it. My hens hate it when I have to supplement(Only Those Who are having a slight calcium issue)With a Calcium Citrate tablet. Luckily only had two issues.

Thanks for the video. I'm currently dosing little Elvis twice a day due to paralysed legs, and as he improves he gets feistier! Plus he knows what's coming now . He is a sweetie though. Beak is much much smaller than a large fowl chicken, and sometimes I wish I had a third hand.
