"I'd rather not get a rank," said Dove, "us pups get loved and fed well and we get to play all the time. Once you get a rank you are looked down upon by those of higher rank and don't always get fed. Why would you want that sooner?"

Daisy sighed. "I know, Dove, but the thing is, I'm just not used to living like that. Back at the zoo, my family was killed, and I had to live on my own, protecting the other pups...you know what I mean. I feel out of place without having a responsibility, you know?"

"I guess that makes sense," said Dove, "but it'll be awful strange you being an adult with a rank and all would be so strange." (Dove may actually be only 3 months or less)
