Ava stared at the wolf. Looks like he got a pretty bad scratch. She smiled kindly at the wolf, but when he whimpered, she muttered, "Suck it up, Buttercup."

(His legs are mangled and infected, so she's got to be a really indifferent or tough person to feel this way....)

Thomas stood to the side, not sure what to do. He felt less of a help and more like he was getting in the way. He turned to the person who seemed to know most what they were doing. "Um...Patricia, was it? Is there anything I could do to help?" He asked

Keith looked at the fat lady and said, "It's time. Hold his legs steady." He walked over to the wolf's legs, motioning to Patricia to follow.

Patricia turned away from following Keith to answer, "You could moniter the wolf's behaviors, as Keith told you. Someone has to do it so we know if the wolf is waking up or is feeling pain, that is very important."

Keith was glad Patricia hadn't tried to undermine his authority, but then thought better of what he'd originally told the boy. (Gtg)

Keith didn't want to cause Patricia to get angry at him, so he figured the boy could at least have that task...even if he hadn't been very good at determining whether the wolf was alseep or not. "Alright," he said, "Patricia, come and help me with the amputation surgery."

Patricia walked over to where Keith was standing. Keith set the case of tools down on a nearby stool, and picked one out for him and another for Patricia. The tools he'd picked out would be used for the task of cutting through the skin.
