Glued Eye Shut of Baby Chick Natural Remedy

Received chicks in mail but one had it’s eyes glued shut and was basically blind. This is the natural treatment I gave it that works great! I did lots of research before performing it. I also have a a degree in Biology so I kinda know this stuff.
Honey & water

water

coconut oil (mixsolid into a soft cream)

Steps:

1. rinse eye with warm water. Make sure to make it very wet without toutching it. And make sure the water isn’t too warm/hot

2 wait 20 seconds

3 drop honey water into eye

4 very very very carefully wipe eye in a downward or upper motion: depending on how it’s glued. * this step should maybe performed in the 2nd or 3rd depending on severity

5 put coconut cream around eye area

Saline can also help to dissolve eye crust. Crusty eye drainage in chicks is not normal. It can be a sign of a respiratory disease. Do you see any bubbles in an eye? I would keep the new chicks quarantined for a month to make sure they do not have something that might affect other chickens. Glad that your method works on getting the chicks eyes clear.

now it can only blink after I treat it with water, warm water with honey solution, and some coconut oil. But later on it can’t close its eyes all the way.
It’s improving tremendously though! It used to just have its eyes stuck open all the way. Now it can squint!

No bubbles. I really hope it’s not contagious but I may separate. After watching it I’m hoping that its eyes were glue since it hatched. I’ve hatched ducks before and one was stuck to the shell and I had to help it get unstuck with water and coconut oil. When it can it was completely blind with goop and fur stuck to its open eyes. I immediately ticked its eyes with tuna of water, waited, than wiped the stuff out.

The one in the middle looking up. When I first opened the package, all chicks were acting normal except this one who was standing in the middle with its head turned upwards. Didn’t take a picture because it was too horrible and I freaked out. Will take pic next time I treat it

I would get some Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn Eye Gel from the feed store soon, and apply it twice a day after cleaning it. Saline eye wash is good to use to clean and runse eye. I would really try to get her dinking and eating. Something like Poultry NutriDrench or SaveAChick electrolytes with vitamins would be good for a few days. If her head is still pointing upward, she may have stargazing which can be treated with vitamin E and chick vitamins.

I separated my chick for two weeks while I treated her. She had one eye glued shut when she arrived and I was concerned about respiratory infection. I used warm water and gauze to open it and then applied Puralube Vet Ointment. It worked well. I also used triple antibiotic ointment. It cleared up in about 4 days. She is fine now.

Ok now I’m getting a little more worried. It has bubbles in the eye. Is this bad? Does this mean it’s sick? She has no other symptoms: no sneezing, no lethargy, she eats and drinks a healthy amount. But could it be contagious and should I separate? She could just have the eye injury when the albumin from the egg got stuck to her eyes? This is the first time she can close her eyes all the way. Before they were glued open.
