GMO Feeds

We feed Agway Feeds to our Rabbits and Chickens and Purina Oyster Shells as well. Just wondering if anyone knows if there is GMO's in either of these brands. If so what are some other brands in the same price range (we spend about $15/bag).Trying to stay on a natural path for the animals, not necessarily organic.

Yup. And if it is certified non-GMO be prepared to pay almost double what your costs are now.

Organic 101: Can GMOs Be Used in Organic Products?​

This is the thirteenth installment of the Organic 101 series that explores different aspects of the USDA organic regulations.
The use of genetic engineering, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs), is prohibited in organic products. This means an organic farmer can’t plant GMO seeds, an organic cow can’t eat GMO alfalfa or corn, and an organic soup producer can’t use any GMO ingredients. To meet the USDA organic regulations, farmers and processors must show they aren’t using GMOs and that they are protecting their products from contact with prohibited substances, such as GMOs, from farm to table.​

Your incorrect, Organic growers can not use GMO seeds but they can use pesticides as long as the pesticides are derived from natural sources.


Also only products labeled 100% Organic are 100% Organic.
Products just simply labeled Organic can have up to 5 percent inorganic products as long as there per National List.
Made with Organic means that the product has at least 70% Organic and can have up to 30% inorganic products in it again as long as there per National List. The organic ingredients must be labeled (e.g. Organic Corn, Organic Wheat etc.)..

Most chicken labeled as "Organic" can have quite a bit Non-Organic products in it since they fall within the "Organic" and "Made with Organic" label.

If it is CERTIFIED non GMO it is non GMO.

Nearly all soy amd most corn has been rendered GMO at this point because of cross pollination. So if your feed contains either, no matter what that bag says, it most likely has GMOs in it.
